Is a Power Strip a Surge Protector? (Spoiler: No)

I get this question from colleagues all the time. And it’s important because it affects how you protect your equipment. A power strip is just an extension cord with multiple outlets. A surge protector contains components that absorb voltage spikes. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) does both surge protection and battery backup.
