- Buy from an authorized distributor. You get accountability, warranty support, and expert sizing. The $199 mystery UPS had none of those.
- Test your UPS batteries with a multimeter every quarter. It's the same procedure as checking a car battery. Twelve minutes and a $25 tool can catch failure before it catches you.
- Replace the refrigerator air filter. I'm serious. A clogged filter strains the compressor, and the surge pushed ours over the edge. Preventative maintenance is boring—and way cheaper than a $350 service call.
